A First-Timer’s Guide To Our Cabins

First CABINSCAPE Adventure? Here’s Everything You Need to Know!

You’ve seen the photos. Cozy little cabins tucked into the trees, mornings that start with coffee and a view, and evenings spent around the campfire under a sky full of stars.

Sounds pretty good, right?

But if you’ve never stayed with us before, you might have a few questions.

What exactly does off-grid mean? How do you choose a cabin? What do you need to bring? And is it really as peaceful as it looks?

We’re breaking down everything you need to know about your first escape into the woods, from finding your perfect cabin to making yourself right at home.

First Things First, Meet CABINSCAPE

We’re CABINSCAPE, a Canadian-owned company founded by a husband-and-wife team with a shared love for the great outdoors, simple living, and the kind of getaways that make you forget what day it is.

What started as a shared passion for escaping the everyday has grown into a collection of thoughtfully designed, off-grid tiny cabins tucked into some of Ontario’s most beautiful natural landscapes, from peaceful forests and quiet lakes to rugged wilderness and scenic waterways.

We believe you shouldn’t have to travel far, pack a million things, or plan an elaborate vacation to feel like you’ve truly gotten away.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little cabin in the woods.

Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend, a solo reset, or a few days of exploring with your favourite people, our cabins are designed to help you slow down, get outside, and enjoy the little things.

Less noise. More nature. Your kind of escape.

So, What Does Off-Grid Actually Mean?

Good question. And don’t worry, we’re not sending you into the wilderness with a tent and a flashlight.

Our cabins are completely off-grid, meaning they operate independently from traditional utility systems. They’re solar-powered, thoughtfully designed, and built to have a lighter impact on the environment.

But that doesn’t mean giving up all your creature comforts.

Inside, you’ll find the essentials for a comfortable stay, including a cozy sleeping space, a kitchenette with a gas stove and mini fridge, heating for chilly nights, lighting, and an indoor composting toilet.

There’s also a low-voltage outlet for charging essentials like your phone.

The biggest difference? You’ll be a little more mindful of things like electricity and water. Think of it as an opportunity to embrace a slower, simpler way of doing things.

During warmer months, our cabin water systems are operational. Once temperatures drop, we winterize the cabins to protect them from freezing, and provide potable water for guests to use instead.

A Little Adventure, or a Lot? You Decide.

Here’s something you might not know: not all of our cabins are equally remote!

Some are easy to drive right up to, while others take you a little farther off the beaten path. We’ve made finding your comfort zone easy by giving each cabin a remoteness rating.

Low Remote

Easier vehicle access, with towns and amenities generally close by. Great for first-timers.

Medium Remote

A little more secluded, with a balance of privacy and accessibility.

High Remote

Our most adventurous escapes, best suited for those comfortable in more isolated wilderness settings.

If this is your first off-grid adventure, starting with one of our Low Remote cabins is a great way to get a feel for cabin life. And if you’re someone who likes to venture a little farther into the wilderness? We’ve got you covered, too.

What Does a Day at CABINSCAPE Look Like?

The short answer? Whatever you want it to.

Wake up slowly. Put the kettle on. Enjoy your coffee with a view that doesn’t involve your neighbour’s driveway. Maybe you’ll head out for a morning hike, paddle across the lake, or explore one of the charming small towns nearby. Or maybe you’ll stay in your pj’s until noon, get lost in a good book, and spend the afternoon doing absolutely nothing.

There’s no itinerary to follow and nowhere you need to be.

As the sun goes down, fire up the BBQ, break out a board game, or settle in around the campfire for some good old-fashioned stargazing.

That’s the beauty of a CABINSCAPE getaway.

You get to decide what adventure looks like.

The Little Things You’ll Want to Know Before You Go

A little preparation goes a long way toward making your first off-grid adventure feel effortless.

What should I pack?

Packing for your first off-grid adventure is easier than you might think! Think comfortable clothes, sturdy footwear, your favourite food and drinks, and a few things to keep you entertained. From cozy bedding to campfire essentials, we’ve put together a handy packing guide so you know exactly what to bring (and what you can leave at home).

Can I bring my dog?

Absolutely! Many of our cabins are pup-friendly, so your four-legged adventure buddy can come along for the ride. Just look for the pup-friendly designation when booking. Additional fees apply.

Will I have cell service or Wi-Fi?

Cell reception varies depending on your cabin and provider, and our cabins don’t offer Wi-Fi. We think that’s part of the charm. Download anything important before arriving and embrace a little time offline.

What about the bathroom?

Yes, there’s a bathroom inside your cabin! Our cabins feature environmentally friendly composting toilets, which are a little different from your bathroom at home but surprisingly simple to use. Running water is typically available from May through October, with seasonal adjustments depending on the weather.

Curious about what our off-grid bathrooms actually look like? We’ve put together a handy guide so you know exactly what to expect before you arrive.

You sure can. Our cabins are heated and designed for year-round escapes. Winter stays have a few differences, particularly when it comes to running water and access, but they’re every bit as magical.

And remember, every cabin is a little different. Be sure to read your chosen cabin’s full description so you know exactly what to expect.
