Penner cabin has moved to Haliburton as of December 1st, 2020. This new location (one of our most remote!) overlooks a small private lake in Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve.
As a result of the Ontario mandated "Stay at Home" order, we are not taking any NEW bookings BETWEEN December 26th, 2020 - Feb 11th, 2021.

Winter Disclaimer: This cabin is a hike-in cabin when the snow becomes too difficult to drive through. Guests are provided with snow-shoes and a sled to haul in their gear.
Please note running water is shut off in late October when temperatures fall below freezing (this means no showers). Drinking and dishwashing water is provided. Winter weather can be challenging. Guests must be comfortable, equipped and acknowledge the inherent risks in staying in this winter backcountry environment.
Winter Hike-in: Easy : Penner cabin is a level 300 Meter hike in(as of December 1st, 2020)
Named after our favourite Canadian kids' TV show in the 90's: Fred Penner's Place, this cheery and vibrant wilderness retreat is located in Haliburton, Ontario nestled in 100,000 acres of wilderness. The cabin overlooks a small paddling lake that offers expansive east and west facing views (without a cottage in site!). Watch the sunrise or sunset from your private dock, paddle, swim or fish on a private lake or access over 300km of trails right out your front door. Please note: Haliburton Forest trails are snowmobile only through the winter months (Mid December to the end of April). For snowshoeing or cross country skiing, visit the many trails in the surrounding area.
This location is very private and remote. Pack your bags, disconnect and enjoy nothing but the great outdoors.
LOCATION
This Cabinscape is located in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario, an area best known for their rolling hardwood forests, pristine lakes and extensive wetlands grounded firmly on the Canadian Shield. From Penner cabin you are just 20-minutes from the main office/lodge at Haliburton Forest with access to their extensive trail system and outdoor adventure activities; The Cookhouse Restaurant; Camp Store; Logging Museum and so much more. The picturesque waterfront town of Haliburton is a 45-minute drive from Penner Cabin. Take a day trip for great shopping, cafes, restaurants and events.

Our cabin is completely OFF-GRID. (Don’t let this scare you). The cabin is modernized and solar powered with the following amenities and features:

• Grab a bite at The Cookhouse Restaurant located at the Base Camp of Haliburton Forest (20 minute drive)
• Visit the beautiful waterfront town of Haliburton for shopping, dining and events (45 minute drive)

THINGS TO BRING
• Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets. In response to Covid-19, for your Health and Safety we are removing ALL bedding and towels from our cabins.
• Firewood (you can also collect deadwood on the property)
• Appropriate clothes, layers, and bug repellent
• Hand sanitizer
WIFI/CELL SERVICE
There is NO WIFI access at the cabin. There is decent, reliable cell reception.
DOGS
You are more than welcome to bring along your pup. 1 dog per booking is permitted. You will need to add your dog as an “additional guest” when booking. Additional guest/pet fee is $25/per night.
ADDITIONAL GUESTS
Penner cabin can accommodate up to 3 guests. The daily rate includes 2 guests. Additional guest fee is $25/per night.
BRINGING CHILDREN?
Children 12 and under are FREE. Do not bother checking off your child(ren) as additional guests when booking. Please just let us know in your notes.
GUEST ACCESS
Guests will have full access to the cabin and surrounding property. Entry is by lock-box and key. Note: Check in time is 4 pm. Check-out is 12 pm.
GUEST INTERACTION
We are always a phone call or text away for any questions or assistance. Our on-call maintenance staff live nearby on the main and can be made available if need be.

ADDITIONAL RULES
ENERGY CONSUMPTION: As an off-grid, solar powered cabin, energy conservation is key. Please turn off lights when not in use, especially when you are outside of the cabin. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so please be mindful of your consumption. There is a back-up generator if needed.
NOISE LEVELS: Please keep your evening noise levels to within reason. Help us to promote a quiet and tranquil setting for everyone.
GARBAGE: All garbage and recycling must be packed up and taken home on your departure.
PETS: You are more than welcome to bring along your dog. We ask that you please keep them off the bed. Due to common allergies, cats must be kept at home.
