Summer 2021

Available for July, August & September
Forest Meditation

Join a skilled forest guide on a restorative walk in the woods. This journey is focused on becoming more present with your surroundings and gaining a new awareness for the incredible world around us.

Drawing on traditional forest bathing techniques, this experience will leave you feeling refreshed with a new appreciation for natural spaces. Not only will you deepen your connection to the forest, you will also renew your relationship with yourself.

This experience includes a private two hour hike with an experienced forest wanderer and a delicious cup of “Wild Tea” made with ingredients sourced from the forest.

Cost: $145/2 people + HST

Great Canadian Canoe Trip

Learn the skills necessary to portage and travel confidently in the incredible Ontario wilderness. From paddling and navigation, to cooking over an open fire, this experience will help you prepare yourself for backcountry bliss.

This adventure starts at your Cabinscape cabin, where a skilled guide will teach you canoe basics. From there, you and the guide will travel to one of the neighboring lakes in Limberlost Forest or to the world-renowned Algonquin Park to start your journey.

The Limberlost Forest adventure is a half-day trip (approx. 3 hours), and includes a snack. The Algonquin Park adventure is a full-day trip (approx. 6 hours), and includes a hearty lunch. Both trips feature a paddling lesson, safety tips, a local hike and a cold beverage for each guest.

Cost: Limberlost $180/2 people + tax or Algonquin Park $290/2 people + tax*

*A vehicle permit for Algoniquin Park is not included, but can be purchased for $10 at the park if required.

Stargazing Tour

Join a professional star gazer for guided night hike in the forest. This is the perfect opportunity to peer up at the night sky, and learn more about the stories behind the incredible constellations that are only visible to those that take the time to look.

After a short journey through the trees, your guide will prepare hot chocolate and delicious treats while discussing the wonders of nature, allowing you to sit back, relax and consider what it means to be a part of it all.

This experience includes a private experience with a professional guide, locally sourced treats and a warm drink.

Please note: in the event of overcast, this experience may be altered to focus on night hiking.

Cost: $155/2 people + tax

Fireside Cookout

There are so many ways to get warm! This two hour guided experience will deepen your relationship with fire as a professional guide teaches you how to stoke a flame with anything from a lighter to two sticks rubbing together.

Together you will wander to gather materials, build a proper cooking fire and enjoy a gourmet meal of freshly prepared bannock over an open fire. You are free to either lend a hand and learn, or kick back and relax while your guide cooks an outdoor meal to remember.

Cost: $155/2 people + tax

Bass Fishing on Big Rideau

Bass Fishing on Big Rideau

Available exclusively at our Ember, Mica & Juniper cabins

Whether you are a new or seasoned angler, this is the perfect experience for folks who are looking for a day out on the water – taking on the challenge of catching the biggest bass! Your adventure will begin as you meet your guide and depart from the docks of Murphy’s Point Provincial Park. You’ll step aboard a brand new fully-equipped 22-foot fishing boat, and set off for an enjoyable day of exploring the lake in search of largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Professional angler Ashley Rae will be your guide for the day. She’ll show you the ropes of fishing, providing you with the chance to learn everything from how to cast, how to use various techniques and lures, and how to locate fish. Catch-and-release is highly encouraged to help ensure the future sustainability of this fishery. Whether you want to sit back and relax, or learn as much as possible – the choice is yours.

This full-day fishing adventure can last between 5 to 8 hours depending on your interest. A nutritious lunch from culinary staple Picnic Perth, and all fishing and safety equipment are included in this experience. You’ll just need to ensure you dress appropriately for the weather, bring sunglasses (for eye protection), and have your fishing license with you. If you wish, your guide will snap professional quality images throughout the day to document your adventure.

Canoe Excursion

Paddling a canoe is a truly Canadian experience. In this half day introduction you will learn the basics – strokes, techniques, and safety – and go for a shoreline paddle to practice your new found skills. Suitable for beginners and those looking to improve under the guidance of an expert certified instructor. Bring your cabin canoe (waterfront cabins only) or rent one.

This experience includes an expert certified leader, 3 hours of instruction and paddling, a canoe, paddles, and PFD (if required).

Cost: $198/2 people + HST

Highland Minerals – Guided Hike

The Haliburton Highlands is an area known for its rich biodiversity, but what lies underneath? Enjoy a guided hike through a Sugarbush with local experts from Esson Creek Maple as you explore the rare mineral deposits and untouched geological anomalies hidden just beneath the forest floor.

Each tour is approximately 3.5 hours and features a brief geological history review, a tour of the minerals on property, as well as a discussion about indicator plants and the connection between the minerals and maple syrup.  Finish your tour with a sample of Esson Creek Maple syrup – a perfect compliment to the beautiful setting. 

The hike takes place on well maintained forest trails which include hills and valleys, and adheres to Health Regulations with respect to COVID19 safety protocols. 

Cost: $99/couple OR $130/family (maximum of 2 adult, 2 children) + HST

Scenic Fall Colors Guided Hike

Explore the incredible fall colours of the Haliburton Highlands on this exclusive hike through Haliburton Forest to what locals and travelers alike rave as the best lookout in the County! On this guided tour, you’ll have
the privilege of wandering through the wilderness with a trained naturalist, who will identify birds, trees, plants, and animals along your journey.

Rock Climbing in the Highlands

While the hiking is great in the Highlands, why not take the most direct route to the top with an introduction to rock climbing! Never rock climbed before? No problem! Let us get you outdoors and out into nature to reach new heights. We are pleased to offer rock climbing in partnership with
experienced instructors, who will set you up with all the necessary equipment, teach you the basics of climbing and guide your fun and safe climb.

No belaying experience required, participants will be belayed by guide.

Ice Climbing

A half day adventure geared towards getting a taste of what this sport has to offer. No experience, no problem, you will learn the basics and get in your first swings! You’ll learn safety first, have a short lesson, then lots of climbing! Lorne Foisy of Elements Guiding will be your guide and instructor at the West Shore climbing site; a short drive from Haliburton Forest.

Ice Fishing

With over 100 lakes and healthy fish populations Haliburton Forest is the perfect ice fishing destination for the adventurous angler. You will travel by snowmobile to one or more remote lakes to catch lake trout, brookies and rainbows.

A professional guide will work with you to plan an adventure of a lifetime including what species to target, what lakes to visit and what routes to take. You will have the option of a half day or a full day adventure. The full day adventure includes a hearty and nutritious hot lunch prepared and served directly on the ice, providing a great opportunity to sit back and take in the surroundings as well as the energy to get through a full day out in the elements. If all goes well the lunch may feature the fish you have caught that morning!

X-Country Skiing

Skiing is a quiet way of exploring the natural wonders of winter. Come glide into winter with this half day introduction to cross country skiing. If you are new to x-country skiing, we will teach you the basics in either skate or classic style and guide you along scenic trails that are suited to your level of ability. If you have skied before let us help you refine your technique and take you through some rugged and beautiful terrain. You will find your stride under the guidance of an expert ski instructor. The Haliburton Highlands is known as one of Ontario’s best x-country ski destinations, and boasts more than 100 km of groomed nordic trails.

This experience is offered in cooperation with the Haliburton Highlands Nordic Trails Association, and is suitable for beginners as well as those looking to improve their technique.

Canadian Maple Tour (March & April 2021)

Join the team at Esson Creek Maple for private and unique sugar-ing experience in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands! This family run maple operation shares their love of minerals and nature with their passion for making syrup by hosting a guided tour of their farm and facilities located near Wilberforce, ON.

Each tour will begin with a leisurely hike through the forested trails that constitute the Sugarbush while your guide shares their expert knowledge on maple production, species diversity in the area, local minerals and the incredible connection between them all.  The hike will bring guests to the Sugarhouse, where there will be a tour of the production process, and the tour conclude with a maple treat of “Sugar on Snow”. 

Each adult guest will receive a bottle of Esson Creek Maple syrup as a gift to take home.  This personal tour is approximately 60 – 90 minutes and adheres to Health Regulations with respect to COVID-19 safety protocols.
